Sunday Dinner
Tonight for dinner we had grilled chicken and eggplant, steamed cabbage, and risotto. We take no mercy on our children. In order to have dessert they had to eat everything on their plate, nothing revolutionary. So I dish up the things they like and try to put just enough of the veggies on to give them their daily dose and to have dinner be a success. PS, every night my kids ask, "Are we having eggplant or mushrooms for dinner?". Usually the answer is no, but tonight was not their night. So, Kate asks if I will feed her the eggplant. She has her nose pinched and water glass at the ready. I give her the first bite and she totally gags, up comes the eggplant. I tell her, "I think you are done for the night". I am not mad, clearly she has done her best. She says "No, I really want the ice cream. I just choked on the skin. will you peel it for me?". I peel it, she eats the rest, no drama, and enjoys her ice cream. Next Anna says, "How many bites of risotto do I have to eat?". I look at her plate and say, "oh probably about 14.". She doesn't catch the sarcasm and proceeds to count all 14 bites. She enjoys her ice cream too. Dinner is never boring at our house.

That reminds me of our dinner tonight as well, except for the part where the kids don't throw temper tantrums and end up eating their dinner.
Way to perservere Kate :) You've got such a bunch of cuties on your hands!
hahhahahahhaha! 14! SO cute! I bet you were trying not to die laffing watching her eat it!!!
Hey you good eater Jones kids. Grandma will have to learn now to eat eggplant from your Mom. I can pinch my nose and get a glass of water ready. I'll get her to feed me and try not to gag. I need someone to be strict w/ me so I will eat my veges. Way to go. Keep up the good work.
Love Grandma Nancy
dang. I hope that one day Ollie will even eat just macaroni and cheese for a bribe. please tell me that Adam isn't good about eating all of that (delicious) adult food?!? I am so jealous if so.
No, I just put small bits of eggplant and cabbage on Adam's plate and sometimes he takes a bite, and sometimes he doesn't. It's all about exposure right? I don't expect to have any success bribing Adam at this point - I don't think he gets the if/then relationship yet. Maybe I should try though?
this sounds just like my house growing up! only it was beets and lentils instead of eggplant and mushrooms. they'll thank you one day. maybe.
actually, i still don't eat either of those things. :)
Love those children!!!
