Busted!

Documentation of Anna turning one of her shirts into pants

Earlier today I was coming in the front door with two kids and an arm full of bags.  I placed the bags on my bed, and Anna immediately started riffling through them and pulling things out.  I said, "Anna, I'm not ready to empty those bags, please leave them alone."  She stops and we go to the kitchen for lunch.  After lunch I put Adam down for a nap and enter my bedroom to find Anna stuffing something behind a pillow.  I immediately say, "You are definitely doing something naughty".  Luckily I am using a nice voice at this point, and am kind of teasing her.  She looks at me quizzically.  I realize she's making my unmade bed and she was fluffing my pillow.  What a sweet heart right?  And thank goodness I hadn't resorted to angry Mom voice right away, even a slight delay can have powerful benefits :)  I went through a phase where every time I would interact with my kids, even in disciplinary ways, I would try to act on the premise that they had good intentions.  I think I need to revisit that idea.

I wish I had been a kind mother like you.....I think I jumped on my kids too much (they were sometimes up to some naughty stuff and even if they weren't I was suspicious....) I used to find myself saying "No" to everything w/o really listening....Oh sometimes we old age mothers wish we could go back. I shouldn't have gotten so upset w/ Spencer when he came in w/ pink bubble gum all over his head and face, in his eyelashes, etc. I had to take him to the doctor....the doctor couldn't really get it off...then someone told me about peanut butter -- just like magic - a jar or two of peanut butter in the tub and the bubble gum promptly disappeared! Keep up the good work Andrea....Anna looks very adorable in her shirt pants! She is so creative. Can't wait to see you all. Can you email me w/ ideas about Kate's bathing suit?

Love, Nancy
