Hip Hip Hooray

We did it! We had a successful, uplifting, family night activity. Last night we went to Midway for their annual Creche exhibit. There are thousands of nativity scenes on display in a Swiss Chapel off of Main St, the exhibit lasts at least through the week for you locals who would like to attend. The variety of scenes is remarkable, they have everything from Murano glass sculptures to Chinese wood cut prints. There was a scene made entirely out of old oil cans - it was very cool. They also had one nativity made out of rolled up newspaper. The first room we came to was a marionette show that depicted the night of Christ's birth, the marionettes were really unusual. They came from the Czech Republic and were very beautiful. According to a sign in the room the word marionette comes from Mary - who knew? For those of you who know about the Fontanini collections they had an entire Bethlehem village there that took 28 hrs to set up, Kate really liked this room. We had walked through the Creche exhibits for over an hour when I told Kate that it was time to go, and she was not pleased. She could have stayed a lot longer. We have a little art lover on our hands :)

Wow! I wish we could go. Other good fhe activities would be doing a gingerbread house, inviting the missionaries over for dinner, or bringing out and setting up your own nativity set while talking about the Christmas story. I would suggest the Fisher Price Little People nativity. It's adorable and most importantly, kid friendly. We just got it, and Sarah loves it!

we have that nativity too and it's a hit (we put it away at christmas so it's "new" each year)

What a cool thing! I remember going to this neighborhood in Riverton a few years ago and the whole neighborhood did a live nativity. Real camels, goats, and even a baby!
