NYC
Spencer and I went to New York this week and we had an excellent time. Spencer worked a good part of the trip, but we stayed with our friends, Alicia and David Vawdrey, and Alicia babysat me most of the time. NYC at Christmas time is so fun. We went to FAO Schwartz (scene w/ the keyboard in the movie BIG), Times Square, Harold Square, Columbus Circle, Central Park, 5th Avenue, and a lot of other really lovely places. One of my favorite places was Rockefeller Center where the huge Christmas tree is decorated and the ice rink is located below. Right across the street was Saks 5th Avenue and they decorated the outside of their building with huge blinking snowflakes that would occasionally dance to different Christmas songs. Picture the Bellagio water show and you'll be very close. I have always loved public art, and I consider the way that NYC decorates for Christmas to be art. We happened to be in midtown during rush hour and thousands of people were walking up and down 5th Ave smiling as they were walking home from work because all of the buildings were decorated with lights or wreaths. Cartier wrapped their entire building as a huge Christmas present and they had scaffolding over the walk way that was drapped in boughs and lights - it was lovely. Even the sales help at Tiffany's was friendly to little old me (once I got past the doorman who I thought for sure would say I looked like I didn't belong there). I especially liked seeing my old roommate Kimberly Calder, she's thriving in New York and seems to absolutely love it. I give NYC two thumbs way up!

Pemily HELP! How do I get rid of that ridiculous link at the beginning? I used picasa web albums to link to my blog and I can't seem to get around it.
Looks like such a fun trip. I'm so jealous! My brother just moved to New Jersey and my parents are flying out to see him and go to NYC. I hope we can do that someday!
We went to NYC a couple of years ago at Christmas time and it was great. I have some of the same favorites as you---the tree, the decorated buildings. Loved it. Glad you guys had a good time--and that is so fun that you got to see Kim!
I'm glad we went down when we did. We went again with Peter and Cami and kids on Saturday during the day. It was crowded, freezing, and not nearly as beautiful in the daylight! Still fun, though.
andrea i'm so jealous! how fun for you guys! what's kim doing in new york? awesome!
as for the link, go in to edit your post and click on the "edit html" tab, then delete everything prior to "spencer" at the beginning. if that doesn't work, call me!
Pem you are good, thanks.
LOVE the pictures! I hope to check out New York at Christmas sometime... it's definitely on my list.
I loved your pictures! It was so fun to see you. Thanks for meeting up with me (I hope you guys move out here soon!)
