The Last 72 Hours

I don't mean that to be as intense as it sounds; I just mean that I feel some guilt that I'm not recording more of what is happening in our family.  Believe me, it's not from lack of effort.  It's not from lack of things to record, it's just a fact of my life (and everybody else's I am sure).  There is not enough time to do it all.  So instead of doing my family justice, I will just do my best.

Before the Egg Hunt
After the Masses Landed
We had a town Egg Hunt on Saturday.  It was of course our first time to attend.  The event was well supported, that's an understatement.  I was with Adam in a toddlers only section, but I heard that the big kid field (filled with 7,000 eggs) was cleaned out in under a minute.  I had a Tammy moment (my Mom) and as the kids were running away from me yelled, "If we get separated meet at the doughnut tent!".  I'm glad for this bit of insight as Anna totally got lost and calmly waited for us at the tent.  Whew.  Spencer was camping in the middle of a sheet of ice, so he wasn't there and I didn't REALLY know what I was getting into.  But we had a good time and we'll be back next year.

Easter was a delight.  We had some good teaching moments with the kids.  Spencer and I were being particularly prayerful as we've got some intense things going on in both of our extended families.  Thank goodness for prayers as I felt much more peace than I thought possible.  Also, I got Spencer a roasting pan for Easter, he put it right to work and we had a really yummy dinner with our friends the Gabrielsons.

Today Anna and Kate had a dentist appointment.  I am not being overly dramatic when I say Anna hates appointments.  She has had too many.  She has meetings with physical and occupational therapists, she used to meet with an orthopedist, a lot.  She also has a neurologist, a family doc, and all the support staff.  While talking with the dentist today she noticed that Anna had to see a Pediatric Orthodontist last Spring when we were still in LA.  This in addition to the above really helped me to see that her experience has been different than my own, and the other kids so far.  Anna is a problem solver and a great compensator, she knows how to get the job done.  I think if I could have chosen for her I would not have had her experience all these things at such a young age, but it has either given her amazing cooping skills, or she was born with all the talents she needs to succeed - which I wholeheartedly believe she will.

Anyway, it really helps to have a fearless big sister like Kate.  The two are a great pair.

I wanted to write down some of the things Adam is talking about now.  He is obsessed with basketball.  He yells "shoot" a good portion of the day. He has a child size indoor basketball hoop. When I lift him up to take a shot he is truly happy. Today he decided to try to shot a ball through my drum shade on a lamp in the living room.  I guess I can see where he's coming from, but still not allowed.   It's great to see your child so full of joy.  We had a repair man at the house today because Adam wanted to see what would happen if he pulled at the down spout in the backyard.  About 30 feet of pipe came lose and careened towards a window.  It all worked out okay.  Adam has also figured out how to open the backyard gate, open the front door, break a jar of peanut butter so he can get to the innards, and is constantly doing something destructive.  We will all survive, I hope.  He has a different approach to things.  Kate saw (sees) everything as a challenge, Anna observes till she's figured it out, and Adam just charges.  It's a good mix.

Didn't I hear you say once that you were in on the village egg hunt? We went to the village egg hunt here in Virginia, and it was equally silly and crowded. I honestly don't know why those exist (sounding scroogy, I know), but they're less of a hunt and more of a gathering.

Speaking of crazy crowds of people and eggs, Paul got to take the girls to the white house egg roll with Jeff Tanner and Hyrum and Joseph today. It was pretty crazy, but also, cool, so I guess it's good that these traditions keep going, despite my scroogyness.

Always happy for the updates but I gotta say the fact that you got Spencer a roasting pan and he enjoyed it...made me smile :)

Sounds like a pretty great weekend to me. Poor Anna, I'm glad she's a tough cookie. And I'm laughing about Adam. Dave wishes one of our boys was into sports in the slightest but they just don't care. It must be in-born in these boys. I love it.

Hello gang of Joneses - so glad to get an update on your blog. I just wish I even knew how to do it. Sarah is going to teach me...we will soon have the wacky woolies - winnie workshop blog up and going...It just seems there is always so much going on. I wish I wasn't so old and could participate in all the fun things that families do. Me and Jerry - we just go to the doctors and I sit around watching dancing w/ the stars while I felt pin cushions - such an exciting life alright. I can't wait to see the children again. I did get them a little easter present which of course (you know me and the post office ) I have never sent!!! It sounds like they had a really fun hunt and easter...what did spencer make in his new pan? I want to call you so I can hear the girls play the piano. How are they doing on their lessons

Love grandma Nancy

I didn't know the 'adding an a' was a stage, but she most definitely is! Hearts are heart-a's, etc. :)
