| Dear family, is Santa real? I wish you could tell me. Kate has asked this sort of question twice this season. Both times I've answered with something like, "The spirit of Santa is very real." and she hasn't pushed it. I think there are a few possible reasons for this: 1. She doesn't really want to know the truth. 2. She wants permission to keep believing in something that isn't logical - which I will give her as long as she asks. 3. She already knows that Santa is fictional. I've tried to set the precedent that I will answer any question she asks, and not answer questions she doesn't ask. I've applied this logic to questions like, where do baby horses come from? how much money does daddy make? how does the tooth fairy know I've lost a tooth? |
