Nancy and Jerry came for a visit this past weekend. It was really nice having them here, they've sailed off with some of their friends, but they'll be back next week for some post-Thanksgiving fun. While they were here we went to the La Brea Tar Pits. This museum was such an interesting find. It's an active excavation site in the middle of downtown LA. They have millions of fossils in their archives, and it was really fun to learn about what this area was like 45 million years ago. Did you know that there were camels and lions in the area? There were also tons of mammoths and wolves and saber tooth cats (tigers is inaccurate). We got to see the tar pits, and I learned that asphalt is the correct term for the heaviest type of crude oil. So there is a quarry full of asphalt and sulpher in the middle of LA. Here is a picture of Kate next to the lake, and they've added some castings of what had happened to the mammoths who got stuck. That's the statue behind Kate in this picture.

Today we were able to board Nancy and Jerry's cruise ship. I've never been on a cruise, and was pleasantly surprised by their ship. We had lunch, toured the decks, practiced our golf swings, and saw their room before we yelled bon voyage!
PS - they met about 40 of their closest friends at the dock, they're all ducking out on Thanksgiving responsibilities :)

Cute pictures of your girls! When we lived in CA I remember going to the tar pits a few times, good memories!
Ooooh, how fun! I wanna go on a cruise! Especially over a holiday. Awesome.
I would totally love to go on a cruise over a holiday.
Nice, that is a really nice room they have on their ship. I think Nancy deserves a break every once in a while from a holiday. I know how she does stuff.
Your girls are so adorable!
I have very fond memories of La Brea Tar Pits. We lived in Santa Barbara for a year when I was little and we went often. How fun that you got to go! I can't believe how light Anna's hair is getting.
What a cute picture of them in the chair! Anna has quite a bit of Spencer in her!
