Week 1, Check

There is a long standing bread tradition in the Jones family, bear bread.  When Grandma Nancy was here, saving our sanity during the first week, she and Adam bonded over their love of bread.  Nancy's creation is on the right, Adam's is on the left.  Adam was giving Grandma the cold shoulder until they had a bread making session, and then she won him over.  His favorite phrase right now is, "No way", a phrase Grandma Nancy must be sick of by now.

Some of Adam's other favorite phrases right now are pretty unique.  He is often caught whispering, "Eat chocolate" to the baby.  I think this might stem from a curiosity about nursing.  We would ask him what he thought the baby ate and he would talk about hot dogs and oranges and things.  I am guessing that is where "eat chocolate' originated.  He also asked me this morning if he could catch the basement on fire.  He's really into firefighters lately.

So Walt right. He's adorable.  I was sadly mistaken when I said that he weighed 10 lbs 5 ounces when we left the hospital, I must have heard the nurse wrong.  He was 8 lbs 4 ounces, now he's probably about 8 lbs 10 ounces.  He's pretty long and skinny so far, just like Daddy.  Just to document the crazy that has hit our house, Spencer and I realized last night that for the first time since Walt was born, 9 days ago, that he and I were both awake without a child being awake.  Spencer did have to go out of town for work for about 48 hrs, during which 39 of those hours Nancy was here.  Once she left everything fell apart for about four hours and I slipped into survival mode.  It wasn't easy, but it's getting a bit easier.  4 kids man; I'm not necessarily making it look pretty, but we're all mostly happy at this point.

If you're all mostly happy, then that is the most pretty thing there is! Congrats again!
I remember you wrote once to me (I think it was you...) about how "special" that first year is and how much easier life is after that. So if you're in survival mode every now and then right now, I'm still wagering it's more about having a baby than it is about having four children. You are well equipped for all four of your children, and one of these days you will realize you are even making it look pretty!
