Highlights From a Good Week

1. Adam asks for water alot. What he really means is juice that has been diluted with water. You can hear him from his bed asking for water when he first wakes up. What's funny about this is that he has an extremely deep voice and it's kind of gravely - so it sounds like he's dying of dehydration when he repeatedly begs, "wader".

2. I was driving with the two littles in the car when Anna asks, "Who made God?". I answered something like, well God was once a little boy like Adam, and He has His own God. Anna says, "Like a Grandpa?" I said, kind of. Then she asks, "Is there a Grandma?" I then answered in the affirmative and tried not to die of shock. I wonder how that conversation played in her own head. *Also, my girls play really well together, but I'm grateful for the time I have with Anna w/o Kate around, it's a different dynamic.

3. Kate is awesome. She's helpful and kind and beautiful and excited about new things. She also played with my hair last night while her Daddy read her a bed time story. She's so gentle and sweet, and I don't think I highlight those specific traits, she really is a darling little girl. My kids LOVE anything by Roald Dahl, this is the second time Kate and Spencer have read Matilda. I didn't really grow up reading Dahl, so sometimes I'm still startled by his words. I've got to be less of a wimp.

 4. I'm reading, Boys Adrift by Leonard Sax, I'm going to read his book, Why Gender Matters next.  I had a new thought a few weeks ago, specifically that I don't have a plan on how I will raise my girls and my boy to meet their individual needs; I've been trying to come up with something.  So far I'm really liking Boys Adrift

5.  Spencer has been writing a lot this week.  I know that he enjoys writing because I've gotten more than one phone call this week saying something like, "sorry, I lost track of time, I'm just leaving the office now" or, "today has been really productive".  Spencer saying his day is productive is something like me saying, "Oh my gosh, I had the best day ever!".  Also, Spencer always calls when he's going to be late, partly because he doesn't hear his phone while he's biking, partly because phone service is spotty on the T (our subway), but mostly because he loves me and knows that I'll think the absolute worst if he's more than a half hour late :)

Here's a little moment from Valentine's Day morning.  I was so excited to give them this easel that I got up early and sat waiting with my camera till they started stirring.

Anna has been carrying that recipt around all week, it's her "instructions".

Your kids are the cutest!

Isaac is crazy about the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books but when he finished the series I went to the library looking for something that might catch his interest. I got all the classics--Charlotte's Web, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Stuart Little, etc.--and when I was checking out the librarian mentioned something about how Roald Dahl is "dark" and I might want to make a different suggestion. I was so surprised, it had never occurred me to me that a children's author was "Dark." Interesting.

I LOVE Roald Dahl. He is probably my all time favorite author still. He was for sure my favorite as a kid. I hope my kids like him like yours do!! I'm glad to hear they enjoy him already. That means I can start reading them to my kids much sooner than I imagined...i hope.

Also, i love that your kids all have their own unique look but still manage to look like siblings. Actually they don't really look like each other, they just all look like you and spencer.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is sure their husband has gotten in the worst wreck ever if he doesn't call! Fun post. Awesome easel.

no, there are lots of dark children's books. And fairy tales. Those are the most darkest.
