What Have You Been Up To?

Well, we've been busy; doing what, I'm not sure.  I do know that I go to bed exhausted every night with a long list of things to do the next day.  Sometimes I worry that the things I spend all my energy on are not adding up to much.  But I've been carefully evaluating my tasks and I think I've hit some balance of work/recharge that seems to be working in a time that still feels transitional.

A. I've been running 4 days a week with a group of women which has been great for a few reasons.  1. We run at 6am so I get home in time to eat breakfast with the whole family and we still have time to complete the morning rush 2. I'm getting more familiar with the area.  We change meeting locations so I'm often seeing new things. 3. Exercise! 4. Time to talk to friends, specifically women I admire.

B. I started a design blog with a friend of mine.  This has forced me to make time to think about design related problems and situations on a regular basis, which is so great and is making me very happy.  It does take some time, but I think it's important for me to have something intellectual to work on.

C. I'm doing a montessori based pre-school curriculm with Anna and a few other families in the area.  Each Mom takes a week to teach and this has STRETCHED me to learn new skills and think of many teaching opportunities differently.  I hadn't really faced the fact that my own fine motor skills are not stellar, and maybe as a result I haven't done a great job teaching my kids those things.  Lucky for Kate she's always been interested in craft projects that involve small beads and stickers, so I think she's going to be okay despite my worst efforts.  However, Anna has made real progress already and it's fun to see what's she's capable of.  Sometimes I think I have a harder time teaching her things like how to write her name, ride a scooter, brush her teeth because she's left handed - it might be that I just haven't dedicated enough time to it.

D. I went to Chicago last weekend with my best bud Sarah.  It was a really fun trip.  I will post about it on my other blog tomorrow if you'd like to see more pictures.  I should document the trip better, as it certainly deserves it, but I'm feeling a bit tired now.

E.  The kids are doing well.  Kate's new school is really great, Anna's preschool situation is really great, and Adam is just really great.  The news I have on him is that Spencer is seriously threatening a haircut for Adam and my thought is that Spencer got to decide on the whole circumcision question, so now it's my turn.

Chicago! How fun. I think a preschool would be awesome, but it would also be hard for me to figure out what/how to teach.

Also, is it wrong of me to hope Zoe's not left handed? She does most with her left right now and I dread it. I don't know how to teach a left-hander! :)

Way to take life by the horns! I would expect nothing else from you, though. I think all your activities sound pretty great. Impressive that you run at 6am. Does that mean you are getting a full night of sleep, even with 3 kids? I like the idea of the early morning workout, but I can't think to the time when I will actually have the gumption to wake up more/earlier than my kids already force on me. So kudos to you. And I think the preschool thing sounds fun.

Agree! Certain things are for the mum's to decide and haircuts squarely falls in that box :) I'm really enjoying following your design blog too!
