We Can Do Better
Have y'all seen this? When companies like Target and Macy's take my money I expect better of them. These companies are powerful and they are not doing enough to protect human rights, so they can't have anymore of my money. I can't fly to Jordan and help these people, specifically these women. If these companies didn't know of the violations, that is one thing. But they do know, and they do profit immensely from the $8 t-shirts that I buy for my kids. There is one highlight in this article, of the investigated factories, Classic Brands is the exception - exceptionally bad. Let's keep outsourcing to factories that lift their workers, but Classic Brands is not one of those. If you're interested in signing a petition to help the National Labor Committee send a message to these big companies ethic boards click here.

What's your solution? My solution lately has been to make a lot more of my clothes and my kids' clothes. It isn't a real solution, though. I mean, someone's still making the fabric. But I was thinking that it was better for the environment and labor taking out one person or stage. ONly buying made in the us? Still same problem with the textiles. American apparel's branding bothers me. So, what are you going to do? Buy stuff from places that don't have a major human rights group pursuing them that you know of?
vintage? thrifted?
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Dang it, I wish there was one reputable, inexpensive business that we could support. Really!
I think that you can psych yourself out and say, well if Target is doing it than everybody is doing it and anything I do won't make a difference. But if it's in the media and the company has basically disregarded the attention called to the problem AND you know about it, then you should act or not act, as in don't go to their store. So basically, I'm not going to worry about all the info I don't know about yet, but act on what I do know.
So awful. It makes me sick.
Wow. Signed. And yes, no business from this family until we hear improvements. Incredibly ridiculous! By the way-I love keeping up on your East Coast life, so fun!
