Recalling Valentine's Days

Worst Valentine's Day in my Memory - I was 21 and had recently gotten my heart stomped into tiny tiny pieces by a guy we'll call Steve and I was rebounding with intensity. I had met this nice guy named Matt and he was a little too nice, and by far the oldest guy I had ever dated. Matt was safe because I knew he wasn't my type and that dating him would just be a way to pass the time. He was 28, which at the time seemed REALLY old. He asked me out for Valentine's Day, already a little awkward, but better than staying home I thought. We went to Macaroni Grill for dinner and were seated right next to his recently ex-fiance. This upped the awkward factor by about 101 times. But our waitress sent the awkwardness into a new dimension. She was married to a guy who was 11 years older than herself and she kept commenting on how happy and proud she was of us for overcoming our obvious age difference. I think at one point she sat down at our table to tell us her story. Before I left my house with Matt I just wanted to stay home and at any point on this date I would have gladly walked home and gone to bed. It was terrible, and I knew he wanted to watch a movie after wards. Ugh.

By comparison - Spencer and I's first Valentine's Day

We had been dating for about three weeks and he made a comment to me about how his roommates weren't doing anything for Valentine's Day, funny, my roommates weren't doing anything either. I know, why don't I make dinner for the 12 of us and we'll all get dressed up and eat at the Blue House (where I lived). So we set everyone up, found a tall date for TJ, and a not tall date for Zach, and I think we all had a good time. I had a great time. This date is significant to me because being around Spencer gave me tremendous confidence, I needed it to orchestrate that evening on the fly. I'm really grateful for his influence on me. I would also like to say that on Feb 13th he brought me flowers because he knew that the next day they would be hard to find (maybe because he also knew they would be more expensive?). I set the lovely bouquet on the fireplace mantle next to my roommate Ashlee's three dozen red roses from a guy she wasn't sure liked her or not. I think later that night we went back to his house to watch TJ crip walk. And of course the blue screen incident with Spencer Toronto, but that's for me to know, and not you.
