Spencer and I met on Martin Luther King Day. He came walking into my house, the Blue House, with his friends and he caught my eye right away. Way too cool to be wearing the requisite toga, and tall, I like tall. He was with TJ, and they seemed too big for our living room. Unfortunately I was wearing a gold toga and hosting the party. Who wears a gold toga, who throws a non-Greek, no alcohol, toga party? Luckily I was delusional and thought it was a pretty fun party, Spencer later informed me that it was all guys except for me and my roommates, no wonder I liked it. This situation of course held little interest for him and his friends, so they only stayed a little while. While he was there I chatted to his friends, but could not for the life of me look at him. Turns out these guys had been invited by my roommate Kelly. Kelly had told me numerous times that I needed to go out with her friend Spencer, so when I found out his name I declared her a match making genius and told her to have him call me. She was actually thinking of a different Spencer, but was thrilled with the idea anyway. Tall Spencer called me the next day, we went out that Saturday, he was relieved I didn't wear a gold toga on our date, and the rest is pretty awesome. I of course remember the sweater I wore, and the shirt and jacket he wore, and the hula girl on the dash of Zach's Volvo. Other details of our first date that I hope I always remember:
1. hiking to a rock circle w/ a huge group of people I didn't know at all
2. slipping off a rock and grabbing Spencer's arm to steady myself - I remember him giving me a weird look in response
3. sitting in Reza's 4Runner, and him not remembering me at all the next time we meet
4. Zach's LAME date, who later that week I busted making out with an ex-boyfriend
5. listening to Robert sing a song about Alex and thinking, this guy so obviously just got back from a mission, look at his leather jacket
6. We went back to Jamestown and watched a movie, I think "Behind Enemy Lines". We had terrible seats, way too many people were trying to watch this movie. This did encourage a good conversation, and we had to sit next to each other, no room for awkwardness.
7. He dropped me off, gave me a hug, and I jacked him in the jaw with my head as I was pulling away. Smooth. He asked me out for the next day, a Super Bowl party, right then and there.

oooh, I love this story! I haven't heard it before. Check out how tan you are in that second picture, you look awesome! Not that you don't look awesome not-tan, just...that's a good picture of you. I've always thought Spencer was so handsome. Lucky you! (and lucky him)
Oh Dre, of all the boys I have known you with (so many!) Spencer is my very very favorite. He is perfect for you. So glad you are so happy together.
You guys are so nice, it's true. Spencer is fantastic and handsome and all the rest. I'm glad my friends like my husband.
Look how cute the two of you were (are). It's fun to hear your story.
I agree! Keep the stories coming!
My faves are the "obviously he just came home from a mission... check out that leather jacket" and that brick of a camera Spencer has in his hand.
Good times all around.
I love your voice. Are you a writer? Because you are random and hilarious with your word choice. I love it. I love how you downplay the whole meeting up too. Whatever, he is so lucky you grabbed his arm!
