Journey to Bethlehem

On Sunday we went to a really fantastic event. A local church depicts Bethlehem the night Jesus was born. There are real camels, Roman soldiers, vendors, basket weavers, etc. Kate was able to sharpen a knife and grind corn into corn meal, she bought nuts and dried fruit in a street market. She also learned from one of the actors that she had better hide her sheckles from the Roman guards because they'd take it from her. The volunteers act the part of Bethlehem citizens and tax collectors and innkeepers. Some of the citizens are looking for the Savior's birth, others are skeptical. The pregnant Mary rides through the city on a donkey, and disappears inside a stable. Shepherds with real sheep walk through the city proclaiming Jesus' birth. It was really an amazing scene that taught Kate a lot, and was so well done that it didn't distract from the significance of the story. I hope we're able to do it again next year.

AWESOME. I would love to do that sometime! Isaac has loved watching the nativity this year, over and over. How fun to actually experience it firsthand!

Wow. What a fabulous event. So glad you went.

And I love the picture of the three girls jumping all over after the candy-eating. :)

You know after all the Christmas (read Santa) thrown at us from Nov. 1st - Dec. 26th that sounds really cool. I want Jared to learn that Christmas is actually about "Christ" thats why they spelled it that way. Glad you got to go play in the snow in Utah. Oregon got a ton of snow for the weeks leading up to Christmas it was fun but we are all glad its gone now! Happy New Year!!!
