Exasperated!

I just received a surprise drs. bill today. I thought that we had paid everything, I had spent many hours on the phone w/ billing offices and insurance companies. We have a huge maternity deductible that we met, and I assumed everything would fall under that umbrella from here on out. Surprise! Apparently maternity deductibles (at least ours) are per calendar year. Why is this? How did I not know this? Yep, we had a $5000 deductible to meet for both 2007 and 2008. And I hear this for the first time on 4.10.08. So in reality we had a $10,000 maternity deductible to meet, this of course doesn't include Anna's costs. She is certainly worth it, but I don't like surprises of this sort. I thought I had planned and budgeted so well, oh well. Maybe next time.

okay, i'm thinking out loud here, but a birth doesn't cost $10,000, not even including all your maternity care. my delivery with noah was about $3000 (no epidural, would've been $4000 with it) and prenatal car was probably $200 per visit, and you usually have 13 visits...that's another $2600...maybe you should just pay it yourself and not bother with insurance? if i'm right in my numbers it would be less.

That is absolutely insane! So sorry for the bad news. I can't even grasp why you have a maternity deductable in the first place (and then not per pregnancy!). Shouldn't it be a total medical deductable per year? Crazy.

Don't worry, our costs didn't reach $10,000. I guess that's what we get trying to have a baby in Utah where insurance companies can't afford to offer maternity.

Yikes, Dre Face! Insurance companies are getting sneaky these days. I've also had a similar problem with the dentist, although not to nearly the same magnitude as yours!
Just read the post on lists and loved it! I remember that flirt list, and loved making other random lists with Kelly.
