I like to compartmentalize my life
My Mom never took me to a garage sale, she never had a Christmas bizarre, she never sold anything. Some people like to haggle, some people like to sell items. I really don't. This flows over into another related subject that is difficult to define. I've only been to one Pampered Chef Party that I've enjoyed and when I'm at parties like that I am generally uncomfortable. I feel like I have to purchase something, or else I'm offending someone. Like my purchases are being unjustly scrutinized and I can't please anyone. Is this a neurosis? Do other people like this form of shopping? I really want to support women who need to make a bit of money, and want to work from home; but I really prefer going to a store and purchasing something from someone I don't know outside of the purchase. I liken it to running into your physician at the local swimming pool. Any thoughts?

These kinds of parties drive me nuts. I, too, feel that there is a pressure to buy something, and I usually don't unless there is something that I really need or want. Often I just don't go...hope that doesn't make me a bad person.
i actually like going to these kinds of parties but never buy anything. i think it's fun to see what they have--i especially love discovery toys--but i know the people who invite you hope you'll buy something but won't hate you if you don't. i do know how you feel though. my sister's sister-in-law sells modbe clothes and is constantly trying to get her to buy stuff, so she finally did and it didn't fit and had to return it and it was a huge hassle. i'd much rather buy stuff in a store as well.
I HATE going to these parties too. The last one I went to I felt like I was totally making up excuses as to why I wasn't buying anything. So annoying.
Amen, sister! I usually tell whomever invited me that I will come but I'm not going to buy anything. That way they know I'm supporting them in attending, but I'm not interested in buying anything--even before the fancy demonstrations.
Oh my! I'm so glad to hear someone else feels the same way. I absolutely DETEST these parties. I also hate how friends (and a certain family member) are always talking about how amazing their products are. Some send constant emails, too. How many times do I have to say "No, I'm not interested"?
Yeah, add jewelry parties too... I've been invited to three in the past couple months. It's rough, for sure.
